Appreciate Your Baby Cry
Ever wonder what it must be like for a deaf person not to hear their babies cry. Without sounding ignorant and inconsiderate I can honestly say that this fact hadn’t really crossed my mind until now. While many mothers like me take the cries of their babies for granted deaf people all over the world would savor such a blessing.
If we think we have it hard then we need to re look at ourselves and be grateful. The lack of ability to perceive sound is not just frustrating for deaf parents but is also dangerous for their infant’s safety. Most deaf parents (this link leads another great parenting blog) have no difficulty in providing for their infants’ needs however the tricky part is being made aware of situations that require their attention.
Deaf Mums Sharing
Babies normally cry when they are hungry, uncomfortable, cold/hot, tired, restless and sometimes they just cry to hear the sound of their own voice (not sure about this one but it seems this way at times). Thankfully new technology can help hearing impaired parents out. Modern baby monitors usually come with a vibrating feature and flashing light that signal that the baby is crying. Some monitors can even gage the intensity of the baby’s cries through their flashing light system.
From what i understand the Graco and Summer Infant baby monitors are great for these circumstances.
While I find these features useful I never once really considered how much more vital these features are to deaf parents. I can’t imagine what parenting life must have been like without the innovation of baby monitors. One thing is for sure whenever I turn my monitor on silent mode I’ll definitely count my blessing. Thank you and two thumbs up for parents with hearing impairments helping me appreciate more today.
