Baby Monitor Picks Up the Abuse Of A Child Next Door

by Miriam

Hi Mums,

I have read and reported many outrageous and sometimes hilarious stories regarding baby monitors but by far this has to be the most frustrating.

Maryann Hartmann of Colorado Springs told a Senate committee Thursday that she listened over a baby monitor to a neighbor abusing a 2-year-old foster child. The child later died, the neighbor was convicted of 1st degree murder and sent to prison.

In 2007, Maryann made a formal complaint against her neighbor as she heard unrelenting and abusive cries the infant was suffering next door. Jules Lynn Cuneo, was abusing Alizé Vick, a two-year-old foster child in Cuneo’s care.

During the time that Cuneo had the child in her care she was reported to CPS a number of times for abuse and neglect.

She had also captured Vick begging her 300lb foster mother to not sit on her as she could not breathe. Vick’s grandmother had also reported that her granddaughter had a fat lip, black eye, a broken tooth and numerous other bruises.

A CPS worker noted the cuts and bruises on Vick’s body but for some crazy reason the local child protection body did not look deep enough into the complaint and dismissed the case. Three years later this abuse continued until baby Alize Vick died from a brain trauma she sustained from being thrown repeatedly against the table. Can you imagine being in Hartman’s position listening in on your baby monitor while a poor child is being tortured right next door to you. In some ways I feel that I would have acted a lot more aggressively if I were in Hartman’s position, I just feel that this poor little girl did not have to die, not like that anyway. Understandably it’s not Hartman’s fault in anyway rather the state who failed this child.

If you are familiar with baby monitors you would know that audio baby monitors are most prone to intercepting other baby monitor conversations so in my opinion this type of monitor was in use at the time.

If you come across a similar situation please take action immediately.
